Big Bay Fizzle
Big Bay Fizzle
I have always been a fan of fireworks shows and have seen them in many places in the US. I especially like watching them when synchronized with great patriotic and popular music, it’s a three-dimensional experience.
My favorite is seeing them in a small-town setting. One of the best that I recall was in Highland Falls, NY which is just outside the gates of the US Military Academy at West Point. I had just been commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy and was visiting with my best friend in college John. A close second was just a few years ago when we were visiting family in Banderas, Texas just outside San Antonio. The last few years we were able to view the Independence Day celebration in the front yard of our good friends Billy and Heidi in Ramona where their home was across the street from the launch site. Nothing like getting together with good friends for grilling and cold beer before the sun went down and then sitting on the lawn and watching the show. Time goes on and they no longer live there, so I’m relegated to watching the show on the big screen TV. I know that there are several places locally that we can go to see the shows, but as we get older, we tend to not like dealing with crowds or the resulting traffic jams, so we don’t go. I started watching the so called “Big Bay Boom” put on by the local Fox tv station in San Diego. I was looking forward to relaxing and watching on my big screen in 4K.
I just have to say that last night, 7-4-24, it was a huge disappointment. The music was horrible, there was little celebratory patriotic themed songs played, only the briefest of snippets of the military service songs to honor those who have served and fought defending the freedom we enjoy. I finally had to change channels. In comparison with other year’s shows this was a HUGE BUST. Even the year when all of the fireworks went off all at once by accident was more entertaining than what we experienced last night.
0 stars. Would not watch again.
Here’s hoping they do better next year.
