Sunday Run to Drive Gather Coffee

It was time for a car meet, Drive Connect Coffee, at Dudley’s Bakery. Sunday morning started out pretty gray down here in San Marcos, but the weather app promised better skies in Santa Ysabel. The meetup was due to begin when Dudley’s opens at 8AM.  That’s about an hour’s drive from home; I had put out an announcement to AROCSD to see if anybody wanted to join in an early morning drive up SR76 and that I’m going to be at the Park & Ride at I15 and 76, but no one else was there. So, it was a quick solo run up past Pala and Pauma Valley toward the La Jolla Indian Reservation. The higher I got the better the sky became until I broke through near Palomar Mountain. No traffic to speak of except for a couple of Harley riders that were not hanging about either.  Wasn’t going any faster than the speed limit but since there was no traffic it was a great smooth drive through the twisties up to SR79 and then straight east to Dudley’s. I pulled into the Dudley’s parking lot with 10 minutes to spare.  Paul H. was there with his immaculate Fiat 124 Spider along with Steve G. and his beautiful Porsche Carrera RS and Steve M. in his Aston Martin from the Coachella Valley area.

The cars started rolling in with another Alfa Giulia Quadrifolio showing up. Kyle is from Escondido; his wife told him about the drive as she frequents the Facebook group and told him about it. He said that she was the one responsible for him getting the Giulia! He said that he had been wanting one for a while and he needed a car with a back seat to accommodate their new little guy. Besides Steve’s Aston a rare Vantage F1 Roadster rolled in and is just gorgeous in flat black and carbon fiber. A brand-new Porsche Dakar rolled in also.  It was quite an eclectic mix of beautiful autos. Pictures below in the gallery.

I will say it every time, SR76 is one of my favorite drives anywhere.  If you are out for a nice drive, you can turn left onto SR79 and head West toward Warner Springs and Temecula or head out to Ranchita and Borrego Springs or take S2 toward Ocotillo and swing back toward Julian via the Banner Grade and follow the historic stagecoach route.  Get out and enjoy the scenery and your car.
